field of greens

Field of Greens Festival is this Sunday, October 4th at Whippoorwill Hollow Organic Farms in Covington! We'll be there with some special somethings. It will be a great day out. Some of our local farms were hit badly by the recent floods, and Slow Food Atlanta has organized the Georgia Flooded Farms Relief Fund - check out that link. Come join us on Sunday for a beautiful day outside with food and drink and music and relaxing and engaging with your community.

greenleaf csa

Greenleaf Farms starts their Fall CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Offering on August 29th, running through November 14th. You can collect your weekly share of locally grown, organic vegetables each Saturday at Dynamic Dish, Wednesday at the Decatur Farmers Market or Thursday at the East Atlanta Market. The cost is $300 for the twelve-week period, with work-shares available as well. Contact Greg at (404) 596 6803 or greenleaf201@aol.com. It is a terrific way to meet your goal of eating healthfully and creatively throughout the harvest season.

rooftop pickers

A five piece, bluegrass band will be playing in the corner of the dining room on Friday night! It's kind of an experiment for us. Things shouldn't be much different, really. Okay, maybe a little livelier. They have a great sound and, as it turns out, our space is just right for acoustic music. Please call ahead for a reservation and come along for a lovely Friday evening of vittles and tunes.

tasting

The tasting on Wednesday evening was a great success! With the back garden open and the spring breezes at play, the event had a relaxed and inviting feel to it. David did a tasting of edible flowers and Georgia strawberries. Allison (Antico Mercante) came with some gorgeous cheeses including a fabulous blue goat cheese. Diane (Magnolia Bread) brought a few kinds of her artisanal, organic bread, the flaxseed bread and the seasonal tomato ciabatta were standouts. Hardy (Dirty South Wine) and Nick of Avant Partir were there, sharing their passion for tasty wines. Particular favorites were the Chardonnay and the Mencia. All of this inspires, informs and complements the fare at Dynamic Dish. Also, makes for a great picnic.

earth hour

We will be participating in Earth Hour this Saturday night from 8:30-9:30pm. Obviously, cutting the lights at one of our busiest times in the week presents a few challenges. It works best if people are flexible and get into the spirit a little. Though largely symbolic in nature, this gesture turns the norm on its ear for a minute (one whole hour!), giving us a slightly altered perspective and even reinforcing a sense of our global community.

dine around

On Friday, March 20th, Dynamic Dish will participate in Friday Dine Around as part of the 12th Annual Georgia Organics Conference. We will offer a prix fixe menu at $30 on that Friday evening. Please call for us at 404.688.4344 for reservations.

Georgia Organics does a wonderful job, and the conference this year is generating much excitment. Its tagline is, Pollinating the Good Food Movement, and the keynote speaker is Michael Pollan, the author of The Omnivore's Dilemna: A Natural History of Four Meals.

fair

Dynamic Dish will represent at the Emory Sustainable Food Fair this Tuesday, October 7th from 10-5. We'll have a booth where we can talk about what we do and give samples of some sort (with a little bit of atmosphere, too.) Here's an interesting article about last year's event. Apparently, Emory aims for 75 percent of on-campus (food) to be local or sustainable by 2015. Who knew?

public art in the old fourth ward

A public art installation at the Water Tower on the corner of Auburn and Irwin opens this Saturday, October 4. Artists, Bradley McCallum & Jacqueline Tarry, will use archival sound, video and photography from the civil rights movement to enact the radical transformation of a dormant space in the historic Martin Luther King district of Atlanta. The work, which is part of the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival, runs through October 25, and it looks like they are still looking for volunteers to help with the project.
